[Closed] 488 out of 976 = top half of the field?

Did my first running race in 31 years at the weekend (10k at Bedgebury).

My school days approach of 'Finish in the middle. Try not to shine or you'll get picked for a team. Don't be at the back or you get shouted at.' seems to be habitual.

So, was I in the top or bottom half of the finishers?

top half. there were 487 people in front of you and 488 behind.

Well done!

Halves are:

1-488
489-976

So, top half. HTH. (And, well done)

Go away and think about your question and it will answer itself.

Think about the fact that they are both even numbers.

Another way of looking at it is, out of the top 50% of runners, you were absolutely the worst. (-:

Can you have half a person?

Aren't you first of the bottom half?

Well done for running though, what was your time?

out of the top 50% of runners, you were absolutely the worst.

this still feels like an achievement ๐Ÿ™‚

58'25" according to the foot timer thing.

My Garmin managed to knock about a minute off that for Strava purposes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Given it was on the back of going out and doing 16 runs since January and I'd not done anything bar bike riding for 5 years before that I was pleased to get under an hour and still be able to walk up stairs without wincing the following day.

were there any DNFs? you may be higher than you think. Then subtract the DNSs, if it's a pre-booked event.

Faster than me. My time on my last one a few weeks ago was 1:05:50 (though it was baking hot and I'd to queue for a Radcliffe 1km in). I did less prep than you too.

well, I've already had to include women in the 976 to get myself out of the bottom third - if I start taking the DNF's out I can only see myself slipping further towards the bottom of the field ๐Ÿ˜‰

You were last out of the top half, you're the worst of the best, well done, sort of. ๐Ÿ™‚

*in a median kind of way, not mean or mode

Could do better ... would be my school report on your "performance"

58' 25'' that is almost 9.30minute/mile ... and that is jogging

Now get back out there and RUN it this time Master Was.

Your lack of preparation is not something to be proud of... train next time.... I don't wanna hear any excuses.

A marked imrovement next year please young man ... sub 50mins.

๐Ÿ™‚

I'd go bottom half.
That way you can stretch a point and just refer to it as 'best in class' ๐Ÿ˜‰

Important point. If you start and drop out then you are beaten. I have won county medals this way!
I also ran against a guy for many years who was pretty good and he hated me beating him so on a couple of occasions he actually dropped out of races knowing he could not beat me on that day.

Cant subtract the DNS's though

I have a competitive clubmate who normally beats me. When I was about to overhaul him in a cross country he stopped. He did the same to another woman about our pace. All very funny.
