2017 is going to be the year of the shed for me. I shall be building a 3x4 m workshop/bike store.
I have looked at the cost of getting either regularised or sawn timber. The cost of sawn is much less than the regularised stuff. Acutally it is half the cost.
Can anyone tell me if I will make a nightmare for myself if I use the rough sawn stuff? Please can you tell me what issues I might face? I can buy it from here: http://m.molevalleyfarmers.com/h5/r...m;jsessionid=547EF01072F09786392D9D0B86D9EF9C
The regularised c16 is double the cost from Travis Perkins.
The savings in the cost of timber would give me more money to buy a nicer (in my eyes) cladding such as some waney edge douglass fir.
Many thanks in advance for your 2p worth.
Tim
don't buy it from travis unless you need to put it on account.
I bought 90% of the C16 framing wood for my shed from wickes. the biggest benefit being you can go and pick out the straight ones.
For a 3mx4m shed I can't see that it'll make much difference what you go for. I got mine form a third party buyer. There's a few out there, last time I used Cross Country Building Services. They deal with the local supplier who then deliver it but seem to be able to negotiate a much better deal than I can get by going direct. Seems a bit dodgy but worked out OK. At the very least it'll give you a price comparison and something to use to negotiate if you do still go direct. Also if you are anywhere near Bath I have a great supplier for lightly used second hand timber, ideal for sheds.
I do live very near bath. What sort of timber do they have?
Mostly regularised C24 4"x2" and 8'x4' sheets of OSB3 but some chunkier bits of timber such as 4"x4" and 8"x2", 2-4m lengths. It has a few nails or screws in and sometimes a bit of paint or weathering (all the OSB is oil painted one side, which is a bonus in my book). Last batch I bought was nearly brand new but its a bit of pot luck what they have on the day .They've usually got loads so you can rummage for the best bits. Wyatt fencing in Nimlett
Thanks very much for the heads up.ni will check them out.
