As with a lot of people I'm currently working from home. I've been using a slatted wooden garden table as a desk with a horrible table cloth.
Rather than buy a new desk I thought I might just stick a nicer table top of my garden table, but what options can you come up with for fairly low cost table top? It needs to measure at least 920mm sq, upto around 1100mm square.
I've thought along the lines of two kitchen doors, wardrobe shelves etc but not found anything.
Any suggestions? Can you get the laminated MDF stuff in an appropriate size? I dont know what its called to google! Ideally something in a white, grey or black.
Get a half sheet of ply cut down to size at your local hardware store. It'll be more or less square and you can then router / sand the edges and then seal it.
Lookup Valchromat - its coloured MDF you may find somewhere that will cut to size and ship it to you.
Ikea do a desk top for £6, which is 100x60cm if that helps?

Edit - sorry, seen it has to be square. Ignore me.
variation on sam_u's above, 8x4 sheet of birch ply, cut in half, glued and screwed together from the bottom, finished off.
Not white, but light, should look good.
Thanks for the replies. The the Ikea option seems easiest, I can buy two of them and put them against each other.
You'll get a bit of 1mx1m MDF in B&Q
18mm ply cut to size in b&q
We bought one of these for our kitchen-diner recently. It's 900*900mm

It'd be great as a small desk.
