In the opening episode, nuclear waste from Earth stored on the Moon's far side explodes in a catastrophic accident on 13 September 1999,

Bloody hell, if history has taught us anything, it's that we must never, ever allow those trousers to happen again.

Childhood hero.

[img] [/img]

He was cool.
He flew Eagles.
He wasn't American.
He was called Alan, like my dad.

If I ever sell something in the shop for £19.99 I can't help asking for space 1999 from the customer.

Ahhhh, Colonel Wilma Deering. She caused me feelings I didn't entirely understand at the time...

I wanted to watch Space 1999 when I was a kid. I didn't, and I don't remember why. I'm not sure if I wasn't allowed or if it wasn't on TV in my area. Or maybe it was on, just past my bedtime!

Well, now I'll have to spend 52 minutes watching that first episode! And I've already looked for the DVDs online...

Oh yes, Col. Wilma Deering! I'd quite forgotten about her. She caused me feelings I clearly understood at the time! 😉

Episode 1 wasn't bad (well, except for haircuts, clothes, furniture, music, etc.) and somehow I found episode 2 now...

Something that's always worried me about the Eagles.

Great design overall, but what about the pilot's visibility of the outside world? To me its always looked very restricted- direct forward vision is ok, but nothing out of the left-hand side (if you're in the left hand seat) or to the right-hand side (if you're in the right hand seat).

And also, with the big black bulkhead thing running down the middle of the cockpit to the nose, nothing to be seen the other way either.

This used to worry me on the way home from school rather a lot.

On topic,

Space:1999 passed me by, I'm sad to say. I'm aware of it and vaguely remember watching it as a very small child, but I was too young then to remember much now. I could probably recall a couple of names if pushed, and of course remember the iconic Eagle, but actual episodes, no chance.

Cf. Blake's 7, much to my chagrin.

First few episodes of 1999 were on at the same time as the Invisible Man on the Beeb, what a choice but I made the right one at the time. As for Wilma there was also Severlan in Blakes 7 causing similar feelings.
