Halfords range, especially when on offer, It's hard to justify spending more.

My Halfords socket set has lasted me over 20 years. Don't use it a huge amount now, but hammered it for years a while back when I did my own car servicing and repairs. They've been used and abused and are as solid as anything. Not even sure it is their Professional range either.

Careful now, we are in danger of reaching a consensus.

We need Jambalaya, Ninfan and chewkw to offer an alternative viewpoint

I've seldom used 1/2 drive sockets for anything under 19mm, 3/8 drive is more than adequate. These Facom sets are really good quality.

3/8 much lighter and easier with modern cars and right spaces.

Halfords pro stuff seems very good but Ive only got some older ratchet spanners and screwdrivers / torx screwdrivers.

Another one for Halfords. I've got a mate who runs a garage and he uses them; can't say better than that.

Bahco or Halfords professional and has been said up above buy 3/8

I use
3/8 for 90% of my work, the big stuff only comes out once I go above 19mm.

Long sockets are good for most work, but 6 sided sockets work best on nuts that are a little dodgy.

The other thing that comes in useful are wobbly head extension bars, they make getting into stuff much much easier.

Teng 3/8 set on Amazon for £45 quid last week. Bought one to match my 1/2, tempted to get the quarter to match, but my halfords stuff does fine

Draper set, bought from Safeways 20yrs ago. It's done me proud, ratchet is still tight & sharp.

I'm with trail rat on this one- the texture of the bahco sockets (and my teng kit) is really nice when you're covered in oil or Mystery Mank, or with gloves, it's just that little important bit more grippy. I like my halfords pro stuff, it's really good quality and the guarantee is ace too but it's just that wee bit less well thought out IMO.

I prefer my Teng stuff to be fair but not enough to justify the price difference!

And yes, bihex can **** off.

I use Teng but I'd happily recommend Halfords for DIY work.

I also like Bacho, I feel the whole brand is top quality. I use several Bacho tools at work.
Halfords are excellent for the money and don't forget 10% off with your BC card.

I've got Bluepoint but also some Facom and Halfords pro. Don't like the Halfords ratchet handle but the sockets are more than fine. Again, only use 1/2 on really big stuff, otherwise 3/8 and use 1/4 up to 13mm
