Is there anywhere I can find out what the service requirements of this engine are. We’ve a late ‘16 b-max and don’t trust the Ford garage. I suppose I’m mainly thinking of the timing belt as I don’t think it’s been changed.

Also anybody used the home service option- the wife seems to have booked this, although I pointed out to her we live on a steep hill so checking any levels might be a bit tricky.

Any help?

Internet search throws up various forums discussing it as well

A guy at work has just had the engine replaced due to a belt fail. Similar age car. It's a strange wet belt design. I would highly recommend getting it done soon.

We have a very low mileage one of these in a Focus and the belt is on my mind. My understanding is it's quite a big job as it's "wet" so may be a sump off job to change.

Seems to be a fair summary. We are at 10 years but a long way under mileage. Will be chatting to our local indy / non franchise Ford specialist to understand the risks / costs a bit later this month.

Get it changed and be generous with the oil changes there after,  Ecoboom engines don't like long service intervals.

Wife's colleague is on second economy engine in 100k.

At 7 years old I'd be getting that belt changed.

Engines ain't cheap

Good engines are even less so

Thanks all. We’re on 30k so low miles too but sounds like we should schedule it or plan to chop the car in, it’s handy little runner though and the sliding doors are great for younger kids.

Odd to not be a chain if it’s wet.

This x 1000. My Transit has the 2.0 diesel with the wet belt and it’s a daily topic of conversation on the forums. Oil gets changed annually (8k miles max) on mine, in the hope of prolonging the life of the belt. I’ll get ours changed before it reaches 10 years old for sure, regardless of low miles. Currently 5.5 years and 25k miles.

Yeah but that's because the diesels end up with oil dilution (IIRC) which wrecks the belt. The petrols don't have anywhere near such a big problem with them.

I had the 1.5 wet belt diesel in a focus and the car dynamically changed the service intervals depending on the condition of the oil (this might have been inferred from the number of regens/cold starts rather than a sensor, i can't remember). But anyway, I was having to change the oil every 4K miles and it 'int cheap!

Wet belts in general are shit though. All it takes is for a garage to use the wrong type of oil and you're ****ed. It can be the correct weight etc, but it is critically important it meets the listed spec.
