Good on ya. Bivying is the only way for real back country folk! You did get lucky with the weather tho. On a warm wet night a bivy bag can be the most miserable experience this side of a Smiths concert... (Apologies to Smiths fans, but even you know what I mean, eh?)

I always pay attention, don’t always understand or retain information at my age. However, I’d re-read that article the other day in preparation for my trip in early November. Stopping in the motorhome in the Patterdale Hall estate CL again right on the Grisedale route, a smashing site run by North East YMCA along with a small number of log cabins over the road. However, back to the article, I really enjoyed it as it had some relevance to me - no passport for several years - and combined with a Wainwright book brought some enjoyment. I can recommend (as recommended on here by someone else), a day in the life of a mountain on BBC, describes Helvellyn well.

@vmgscot They’re from Patagonia (Dirt Craft). I ended up buying both colours because they’re such good quality. Highly recommend!
Generous! They're one of few brands that make space for hips and thighs, so I did my usual trick of ordering the size I expected to be, then had to exchange them for the size down. I'm a UK 14 short, and I wear Patagonia size 10 that they label a medium.
Enjoyed that, a lot. A rollercoaster ride in more than one way. I always like the stories with a more human element, and the extra photos here are a great addition.
That kick up turns out to be a scramble, a common occurrence on a James Vincent ride.

Another kit question @amandawishart what’s your opinion of the Rapha jacket? Their shorts and jerseys are good but I’m tempted by the jacket.

@crossed It's a great windproof, and good for a splashy ride where the ground is wet but the sky is clear. I love the colour of it, I'm a fan of visibility! It is stained with mud that won't come out, but other than that I have no complaints (and really, what was I to expect from a white trail jacket?!)
