just bought the neice a bike from asda it is a british eagle ladies mountain bike, very nice bike no cheap suspension, it has a rigid fork and 18 speed gears a bargain at £50. i took the bike to the local bike shop and asked a price for setting the bike up as it came boxed from asda, the cheeky barstewards want £25 for setting the bike up, i expected them to charge about £5 to be honest, that is 50 per cent of the cost of the bike i was very shocked to put it mildly. maybe it would be a blessing in disguise if all these rip off local bike shops closed down, and companies like asda started selling top end bikes at bargain prices to the public.

Are you for real? We treat a bike build of a supermarket bike as a full service as it is quite an involved job. Heck we charge a fiver to fix a puncture.

I think I might just have been trolled?

Well.... i charge £30! If you want a job done properly you've really got to pay for it.

Bike shops wont charge for building up a bike they sell though !!

This is a joke right?

£25 is more than reasonable for setting a bike up, which in this case will more than likely be made from chocolate components and hence take twice as long.

I think paying £50 for a bike is skewing your view as to what things really cost, I can assure you, 50 miles later on that bag of sh1t and you'll be questioning whether it was that good value for money.

You're lucky I charge £50 for a bike build from a box, and quite frankly I wouldn't be touching a POS like that anyway. You honestly expect a bike shop to charge a fiver? You have to pay a mechanic more than that per hour.

Prehaps you should get ASDA to build it for you, oh wiat they won't do that will they?

BTW it's the 21st century now and has been for some time 🙄

And this, laydeez and jellyspoons, is why you should spend more money on a bike from a BIKE SHOP not a bloody SUPERMARKET!!! Because they don't know DIDDLY-SQUAT!!!!

If you're lucky the lbs will bung it in their skip for you.

Now get back under your bridge.

Why not set it up yourself. You might learn something. Like the absolute basics that you need to know anyway.

That was probably a waste of typing, since surely this can't be for real?

If he's a dealer, he's pretty bloody crap at it. I can sell a bike, or pretty much anything else, with one advert.

Quite a few locked threads too.

I very rarely stoop this low but what a

it's true, he couldn't. He looks like a dealer because he's been spamming the classified section with the same 2 bikes for over 2 months now

I'm glad I have his details, seems to have an endless supply of unused S/H bikes. Will be useful when I need another bike.

Amusingly, the character paid by Andrew Sachs appears to have somewhat more intelligence that this Manuel. I wonder how his solicitor is getting on....
