Hello! I'm a new rider to mtb after about 15 years of riding bmx (I'm now 25) and purchased my first mtb last weekend. I'm mostly interested in taking up downhill and free ride and rode at stainburn forest the other day. I just about managed getting down the black and red runs there, so it seems at least some of my bmx experience has translated over to these big strange bouncy bikes.

What I'm looking for is if there are any clubs that go riding at spots around Yorkshire? I'm living in Leeds and riding alone at the moment.

Here's a few of my old bmx photos to share:

Have a look on facebook - there's a few groups to check out

Esholt Dig & Ride Collective
Gisburn DH Trails Volunteer Group
Dirt-Trax Ltd

All reasonably close to Leeds and can probably tell you more than STW

there's also stuff in Wharnecliffe Woods / Grenoside that may be of interest to you but not sure where to tell you to look

How far are you willing to travel?

A couple of decent spots in the N Yorks moors for DH, although they all only have one main run down:
Carlton Bank (Don't go when its windy)
Silton
Wykeham

Wharncliffe in Sheffield has loads of DH runs if you know where to look. I live in York but do pop there every now and then.

Cheers I'll check those links out. Willing to travel in a 2 hour radius on weekends.

I may head down to the race at farmer Johns this weekend too!

Grenoside woods has 3 runs that would be great for someone new to downhill.

Just over the road in Wharncliffe there is aprox 15 to 20 downhill runs with varying difficulty. Some are very rocky / technical, some smooth and fast. All are nice and steep.

I'm in Wharncliffe 3-4 times per week - would be happy to show you around.

The Grenoside trails are closed right now to prepare for the Steel City do, shame one or two selfish twunts decided to remove the tape and boulders before the surface had chance to weather in...

Sound Liam. My email is in my profile. Let me know when you want to go. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, 2 of the tracks at Greno are closed at present (should be open very soon though). DH3 was still open on Sunday though.
