Setting up a pair of crest rims. Done the yellow tape. Stuck in the valve thing and tightened the ring. Now when trying to inflate I get a lot of leakage around the hole for the valve. I tried to trim the yellow tape nicely around the hole and get a good seal on the valve but still seems to be leaking loads. Any tips?
I find if i wet every thing it seals slightly better, my Stans kit was a valve as part of the rubber that sits into the rim, sometimes I use copydex brushed around the tire, just washes off after I have it inflated.
I just wrapped the yellow tape around and then doubled over the valve hole.
Made a rough hole from the outside with a screwdriver and inserted the valve (used pliers to tighten).
You probably just need to tighten the valve a bit more.
I've found if the yellow tape tucks anywhere it appears to come out of the valve, as thats where it leaves the rim cavity, the problem may not actually be the valve.
I tightened the valve up with pliers (Gerber Vice that I carry with me anyway). Inflated with normal mini pump, much easier than I expected.
Thanks. Maybe I removed too much yellow tape around the hole? I'll give it another go and tighten a bit more.
