Anyone know the difference in weight for just the crankarms? My understanding is that XTR loses a lot of weight in the rings, and given I would swap them out for a 2-ring + bash set-up, am thinking that for the cost, the SLX arms look almost as good and was wondering what the weight difference was.

I don't think the XTR rings are particularly light are they? Just stiffer and longer lasting than before.

On weight weenies:

SLX triple inc bb 886g
XTR triple inc bb 786g

So that's 100g saving. For the difference in price, I reckon you could save a lot more than 100g in other areas of your bike.

XTR m970 inners are particularly cheese like and have a different offset so you can't use cheap ones. I'm going to bodge it with spacers.

I use normal rings on my M970 and space out the inner - no problem.

If you get the SLX double crankset they have steel pedal inserts .

STIFF ? the SLX are stiffer than XTR and shimano actually say they are 100% stiffer than XT .

They are not as light as XT or XTR and if you are into it .... not as bling as XTR .

I have SLX doubles.

Unless your a racer or have a serious weight obsession why bother with XTR unless of course you have a lot of money to spend on shinny kit.

I was going to buy XTR cranks and now I've heard that new XTR is on it's way already.
