I have XTR Combo rapid rise brake/gear levers and I suspect my rear mech (M960) may be reaching the end of it's useful life (9 years old) I don't seem to be able to find a replacement new rear derailleur, I would prefer to stay with rapid Rise as I am used to it if I can find one, failing that will a conventional derailleur be a straight substitute - albeit working in the other direction?

Yes
Shimano ditched rapid rise a fair while back.

I love my RR XTR mech but i do get mixed up when I jump on the other bike which is a 'normal' mech!

Mickmed, I fear D12 is a bit of a step for me.I don't know if it is true but I heard of a guy turning up for a ride with a D12 but the battery failed and he couldn't join the ride!

Tom

PS I have been contacted about a NOS M960 which sounds perfect.

I've a fairly lightly used one in the garage that I might be tempted to move on.

As Marc above, I have one I could be tempted to sell, it's currently on my CX bike but been meaning to change it for a while.

I will join the queue for an XTR or XT rr rear mech.

I love mine, and will be gutted to move onto 'normal' after 10 years on RR. So much better for smooth downshifts.

Definitely true - was a road bike ride with my club. He was stuck in 50x11 so went home.

In fairness a snapped gear cable can do the same thing...

I'm pretty sure I've got an xtr one kicking about. Will have a look in the cupboards in the next couple of days

I have an unused 9sp xtr rear mech which I bought for my Klein Attitude Race, which was stolen before I managed to fit it.Make me a sensible offer and it's yours.

£25 and you pay postage?

Price is only worth what someone is willing to pay, so you suggest what you are after to see if it is a sensible price to the buyer...

I paid £14 for the one that's on now from eBay.
