Hi all
The M970 rear mech on my ML8 seems to have lost cage tension so the chain is hanging loose on the smaller gears. Any ideas what could have caused this or if it can be fixed?
Thanks
Chris
1) Are you sure it's the cage tension and not a draggy freehub? The chain might sag in the smaller gears as there's less leverage available to the chain to stop the hub rotating.
2) Check that all the springs in the mech are free to move (I've had the main spring that coils around the mech-hanger bolt sieze up before - but a quick dis-assemble/lube/re-assemble sorted it no problem)
Hope that helps.
The sag is when it's under load and at the bottom, not at the top when freewheeling which is what a draggy freehub would cause.
Will give it a quick strip and relube and see how it goes.
Hmm. Strange.
Well another issue I've had is the cable that feeds into the rear of the mech affecting the movement (i.e. as the mech body wanted to move forward to keep the tension, the cable was either too short or siezed in the barrell adjuster so that movement was restricted)
Quick update - took the mech off and the cage tension pivot had got a little corroded. Stripped and greased it and all is now fine!
Thanks
