Just snapped my chain so that got me looking at why it might have happened...so quick question does the inside part of my mech look bent inwards? The bit with the two holes.....

I've just been out to check mine and it looks like yours so I think you're OK.
Chain snaps happen for a variety of reasons but usually due to excessive wear (stretching) or through ham fisted stompy gear changes, especially if the chain was at an angle (that's how I snapped my last chain).
that bit of the inboard cage is supposed to bend in towards the jockey wheel and most if not all shimano rear mechs ive got regardless of model or vintage do something similar.

How many times I've been in that situation, not sure what it looked like before I ****ed it up ๐ณ
All shimano mechs look like that. If anything the outside is bent but I think its just the angle of the pic.
