I'm looking at a chainset replacement and XTs are £140 and SLX £90 on CRC, is that a no brainer? There's not a massive weight difference is there?

There was another thread a while ago with the same subject - weight difference between SLX and XT group. I think the conclusion was that it was like less than 40 grams so no real weight difference.

Just looked there actually gramo! Still £35 difference and if there's no major difference I can use the saving in some other bits 🙂

slx is significantly stronger in shimano's own words. Steel pedal inserts

Claimed weights from Shimano's website, if I remember correctly:

853g XT M770
889g SLX M660

The steel pedal insert are only on the SLX double chainset, not the triple, just in case you hadn't noticed! I didn't when I bought my triple 🙁

I actually think the SLX looks nicer. Although I have just sold my SLX and bought an XT.
