Nutsack/top-tube incident last night has convinced me the freehub is knackered (ouch!)
I can replace the freehub but I'm wondering if the ratchet is likely to be knackered too? Hub has probably done 2000-2500 miles.

it often seems cheaper to buy a whole new rear hub and replace everything bar the shell.
with shimano everything's built into the freehub anyway so you replace the lot in one go.

everytime I've replaced a shimano freewheel, the teeth on the hub have been fine.
just find a cheapy new deore hub on ebay/on-one etc... and replace the freehub. You've then got a spare axle and bearings/cone assembly too.
