Having split the sole away from the upper of my quite old northwave shoes last night, I'm now in need of some new ones as I'm sure the super glue will not last.

I'm not sure what's decent. I'm very much looking for a traditional XC shoe, currently looking at either a northwave hammer plus, or shimano XC5 or RX6. I don't do much scrambling about, have quite flat feet so the RX6's look decent, but I did like the fit of the northwaves, albeit these are old and fit can be inconsistent year on year.

because my feet are pretty flat, I do need something with a bit of range of adjustability, I've had specialized shows before, which bottomed out on the strap before being tight! the northwaves I'm replacing has a ratchet, and just enough room. I suppose I could look at a thicker insole if that;s the case though...

for ref, other shows i have are shimano MW7 boots, with boa, and plenty of adjustment, so may be a non issue for new shoes...

any recommendations? budget c£100-150 ish

I have had a couple of pairs of XC5 shoes and find them very comfortable. Current pair are XC501 and the combination of velcro closure and Boa allows plenty of fit adjustment. Used for everything from gravel rides to longer MTB bikepacking trips without any problems.

Current XC503 are Boa only, but the XC502 have the velcro/Boa combination.

Winstanley have the XC502 on offer for £99 but only in sizes 43 and 44.

XC502 have the velcro/Boa combination.

this is the appeal of the RX6, nice to have independent adjustment of the toe box. also maybe possibility of the spesh recon 2.0...

if there are any deals about on 47's!

Lake MX177 - but as someone with flat feet, maybe you should be looking at orthotic insoles you can transfer between footwear (that's what I do).
