X7 and X9 quite a lot more than equivalent level Shimano chainsets then.
Maybe they feel that price is justified by saving you from having to take the outer ring off.

X.0 is cheaper than XTR, X.9 is a bit more than XT, and X.7 more than SLX, it's not exactly a huge issue. The SRAM ratios look better, and if the shifting is anything like XX then it's worth getting the pukka double IMO.
