(Waves S1 in front of snap)

Best helmet I've ever had. Shame they don't do it any more. A helmet that dun't make yer head look like a mushroom. Sooo light, too. And my non-biking mates think it actually looks all right, compared to other 'silly' designs.

The following pic has absolutely nothing to do with the Specialized S1 helmet.

Why, oh why, oh why do companies have to change products which work so well? Another S1 fan - the more recent Specialized helmets don't fit so well (Decibel was also heavier). Ended up going for a Limar instead, as the S1 had to be retired.

My sentiments exactly. One of the best bits of kit I've ever owned. I even asked a Spesh Rep why they had discontinued it, and he said quite a few people were lamenting it's demise.

I'd buy another, tomorrow. Even though they were £100 or something.

They changed it because it failed updated SNELL crash tests, so they couldn't sell it in the US or Australia, that's a fairly good reason!

The 2D is a far better helmet, fits much better, lighter, better vented. I thought the S1 was crap frankly!

Not me it doesn't - fitted snugly in a medium S1 - with a Decibel or 2D I need a large which is a sloppy fit and makes me look rather like a mushroom. IIRC there wasn't any weight advantage to a 2D either by the time I'd gone up a size (and the weight was definitely rather more than claimed).

Weight's for a small I guess, bit cheeky, but normal, all 3 of my 2Ds are between 180 and 185g. S1s were about 220g.

I didn't mean that fitting's better on a personal level, of course that'll vary, I meant that the S1 had the fitting system with only a small retention bit at the back of the helmet which you could never do tight, it either fitted you or it didn't, compared to the fitting on the 2D which is far far superior and allows the helmets to fit far more people much more satisfactorily.
