Other bikes also welcome of course!
Old-SSkool vibes for me today on a Nu-SSkool SS HT. Fancied a big yomp. Didn't fancy the muddy grind of my local trails so headed across to Dalby for a lap of the red/black. (Yeah, I know there's better unofficial stuff to be had at Dalby, but I just wanted to go for a ride).
Sorry I didn't take a pic of my bike, but the sky was stunning on Weds afternoon...
Well, Aberfoyle was at it's most Aberfoyle-y today: roots, rocks and gradient, with traction seemingly having migrated South. Weather had pretty much murdered the views, so without further ado, welcome to... "Corner Corner": a compendium of today's top turns (I only noticed afterwards that they all seem to be right-handers).
Waterfalls were looking pretty enthused by the recent rain:
And, just to remind us of better times, here's the same view, shot a few months apart:
Maiden voyage on my new Fustle Causeway GR1. A nice 50k bedding in ride and it feels absolutely fantastic
It finally happened on Friday and I properly binned it on a solo ride in Wharny. I slammed my pedal into a massive rock and the bike stopped dead. I got ejected over the bars into an icy puddle. Somehow managed to batter both shins on the way over and landed on my hands and knees. It was very bloody painful but luckily I didn't do any proper damage.
I'm getting a bit sick of the cleanup routine as well. Desperate for some dryness.
Rigid bike here. But that’s standard riding from the door. In got out on Friday in lovely weather for 2 hours
The first shot is an old one of the bike. The second shows a view from the ride
Sorry about that. The images won’t show in the post. So i re added them then suddenly there were 3 of each
Only the smallest of riding windows this morning (50 minutes). Had the hub apart on the Hunt Mason X Hunt wheels from the SS gravel bike last night as suspected the bearing had gone in the freehub. Seemed to be free enough, so greased it up and popped it back in. Still quite a bit of resistance, turns out the chain was gunked up with dried up silt from the previous ride, and the chain tension was too great. So sorted that out and all was fine.
Who says Singlespeed is maintenance-free?!
So, short SS gravel spin, all working OK. Spotted the sun on the early part of the ride before it greyed-over, ready for this afternoon's downpour!
Standard Saturday spin but Sunday afternoon I had to take Reeksy1 and a mate to the local DH spot… but 30+ degrees and the last vestiges of a hangover meant I chose to go off on adventures. Mainly 4x4 and moto singletrack. Didn’t see a soul.
An hour or so round the local lanes and woods. Still building trust in the frame but the new tyres are amazing.
Took a friends son out today. Turned up with a Trek Marlin which all appeared to be in reasonable working order. After the first descent I noticed he has a rear wheel flat. Give him my bike and send him and my son off to do another loop of berm baby berm whilst I fix the puncture. First issue is Schrader tubes, my pump will only do presta but no problem, it went down quick so I'll just replace the tube anyway. It's not a quick release so I get the multi tool but the axle won't budge. Use the oneup pump as a lever and eventually the axle comes on done with a crack because the crappy 9mm axle has snapped. Not even the vaguest memory of grease anywhere on the axle.
Glad today i started by fitting winter boots. Although there aren’t quite as crazy as they look in the picture. Plus some great marketing aimed at cyclists
Another great ride from the house 😊
I've just done an hour loop around the local tracks which were rivers, got completely drenched, in my shorts, totally mad but I totally loved it 😁
Just rode for an hour in the most miserable conditions I can remember. Constant heavy rain, strong wind AND cold. Thank goodness for waterproof clothing.
If anyone is interested, my new(ish) Patagonia Dirt Roamer Storm jacket was absolutely superb.
I was in two minds whether to go riding today or do a run. Local tracks are as wet as they ever get now.
But went out anyway, some woods with enduro lines not too far away that gets wet but holds grip for the most part. Had a great ride, really glad I went out. Not done any of that type of enduro riding for a few weeks - loved it/really missed it!
I've also turned my hard tail back into a singlespeed yesterday and fitted some more winter- suitable tyres - maxis shorty up front. Looking forward to hurting myself riding that this week upcoming - hopefully!
