do you think any footage would stand up in the event of
an accident?
My commute is 10 mies each way into and from town centre at rush
hour ,some scary moments!

There is a guy in Glasgow does this and puts the worst bits on youtube - I believe a bus driver was disciplined on his foage and it would always help in a crash to show blame.

I work in a shared office facility at the moment (quite a lot of people seem to cycle) and, walking into work one morning after locking my bike up, a guy from one of the other companies based there asked if it was a camera or light on my helmet. I showed him the light and he explained that he commuted with a helmet camera sometimes because Manchester traffic was so dangerous. He said he wanted evidence in case of any accident.
