Just noticed it last night, yes I know it's grubby and there's a hole in the BB. I'm talking about the dent.

No - then again it is not my bike ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or god yes a bike that colour would worry me

TBH not sure but no obvious signs of cracking or splitting

me neither, pity it's Ali eh? Possibly thin ali too considering I didn't notice it happening so it can't have been a massive meteor strike. Got similar smaller dents same place on other bikes that don't worry me but this one is a fair bit bigger, not sure whether the pic does it justice

Mmmbop?

Mine had one from new, I'm guessing it's part of the design. Either way you'd expect chipped paint with a 'dent' that size, no?

worrying. That dent definitely wasn't there last week.

paint is chipped slightly from the rock strike, can't see it on that pic tho.

edit better pic with red circle to show the edges of the dent, still going to ride it at weekend just wondering whether it needs close attention/regular inspection

<pinch of salt>

An engineery type once told me not to get overly worked up about dents on the down tube, as all the pressure is pully apart rather than pushy together.

</pinch of salt>

I'd just keep an eye on it.

Every mtb I own with the exception of my BFe has dents like that in the bottom of the downtube. None of them have fallen apart yet.

Keep a vague eye on it, but it'll be reet.

given there are bikes that have lengths of cable in the place of a down tube then thats quite correct. Top tubes i'd worry about, down tubes I wouldn't unless the dent was near the head tube.

I had a Giant VT with a dent pretty much the same, it never broke, than I sold it.

yup, that bit is in tension (pully apart). Ride it until it breaks....if it ever does.

M&S will pay out on their home insurance policy on that though so if you fancy a new frame.

I bought a 2nd hand Cannondale 1FG frame with a similar size dent in the down tube, got years of riding out of it.

That's a really odd dent, looks like you've centrepunched it or something.

I wouldn't worry about it. TBH 2 of my Mmmbops were bent from new but they both worked pretty well so apparently there's some margin for error.

colour worries me more than the dent

my old dh bike had a dent like that in a similar place down by the bb

it snapped eventually ......

at the headtube.

No, out of sight out of mind.

Drill a hole in it and stick on an extra cable guide; dent gone!
