As title says. Do you think STW would be better with sub forums like some other websites. I.e. 26ers, 29ers, SS, components - drivetrain, brakes, rims...???

It would make finding things easier.

To expand - I like to 'browse'. If I need to 'find', there's a search engine

No. I think even having a separate 'Chat' forum is overcomplicated. Keep it simple.

Absolutely not, the best thing about these forums is all the random stuff you get drawn into with it all being one big melting pot.

No, many OPs struggle getting the right forums now. +1 for what timmys said also.

No.

I can never be bothered with forums that have loads of sub-sections:

General Chat
Other General Chat
New People
Angry People
Smelly People
Confused People
Read Me Before Posting
Photos
Photos you've Photoshopped
Photos someone else took
Photos someone else Photoshopped
What tyres for tarmac
What tyres for slightly damp tarmac
What tyres for damp tarmac
What tyres for wet tarmac
What tyres for standing water tarmac
What tyres for gravel on tarmac

It all becomes too complicated and unless you have hours to waste browsing, you are likely to miss some interesting topics. I think STW has it about right at the moment as it's easy to see things that may be of interest, whether that be directly from the title or if it has a large number of posts.

Think it would be great! Then we could have even more ways to flame people! "why you posting about 29ers on the 26er forum"

Bring it on!!

there are already sub fora

this topic should be in one of them.

(or just deleted under rule UTFS)

Not for me, I like the slightly free form feel of it all. I get to browse other topics I might otherwise miss and weigh in on things you know nothing about.

no 🙂

It tends to remove the social side of things. Some filtering by tags might help to get you close, may even already exist? not sure 🙂

I think we should have a meritocratous tier system.

Ranging from Totally Mental to completely passified and in agreement with everyone else on that teir.

You earn your promotion to higher forums on several scores for behaviour, spelling, grammar, topics started.

Of course, there would have to be an army of website IT bods to create and then, Oh Lordy !, police, said forum-verse.

I use another forum which has 30 sub-forums for less than 700 users and a post count of less than 100 per day. I only ever use the "View Unread Posts" option as I can't be arsed clicking each forum individually.

On top of that, it's no easier to find stuff!

In fact I'd prefer the For Sale and Wanted sections to be remerged into Classifieds again 😉

cant see the point of having a sub forum on a bike website. Better off in some underwater activity based site, I think.

I see that as a direct challenge to my title of worst joke poster of the forums........

I yield. Well done.

Surely the fact that the op has put this in the wrong section despite there only being two is a good enough reason not to have sub forums...
That and the fact that I don't like them.

No - works well the way it is I think. I don't use that other forum too often as there are too many sub sections and the classifieds are ordered by most recent reply...weird! Cycle Sonar I think!

In fact I'd prefer the For Sale and Wanted sections to be remerged into Classifieds again

Agree also. I tend to never check the wanted section any more.

The lack of sub forums seemed odd when I first joined here but I like it now, everything goes in one pot so you end up readng threads you may have missed otherwise.
