Looking at a set of Rockshox Sids on ebay and the seller states:
The bushings are showing signs of wear, and now have some movement. This is felt as front to back knocking. It feels like your headset is a bit loose.ย
Would this be a case of needing new seals or something else? and can I fix it at home*?
*I do all my own spannering and have had a few sets of forks open, so am quite happy giving it a go.
It needs some expensive tools iirc.
I once dismantled a fork and Loco resized the bushings for me, but I don't think they are around anymore and I'm not sure if anyone else would do it unless you got a full fork service.
Aah ok, i'll pass on them then. Cheers.
Yes, special tools needed that average bike shop probably don't have.ย It's off to TF, Sprung, etc. for those to be fixed.
I would probably just pass.
Depends how cheap they are, and what else is wrong with them. (also how much you like tinkering)

Also stanchions could be damaged.
Cheers all, Not bothered about going to that trouble for a set of cheap forks that I was going to whack on my sons bike to give him a bit of extra travel for a couple of days in the Alps.
