Got a bianchi via nirone road bike and was wondering what are the best tyres for winter riding, tyres on at the moment are vittori zaffira 700x23.
Continental gator skins or Gp4000s.
Conti GP 4 seasons did me proud last year.
cheers for that, whats the best width to use ?
Conti GP 4 Season or Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp. I stick with 23mm all year round, many use a 25mm in Winter though.
Schwalbe Durano S for speed and occasional puncture. Durano Plus for fit and forget. Width is personal. 23c on my bikes. If you are bigger (I'm only 70 kilos) then 25c may be more comfortable.
The Schwalbes are a lot better in the wet than the Continental. And winter tends to be, well, wet.
GP 4Seasons are a good bet. It 's likely that you'll only get a 25mm tyre in your frame/forks.
GP4000s' aren't durable enough for winter riding IMO. They have really thin sidewalls which cut up quite easily. I've used gatorskins and Vittoria Rubino Pros in the past and have both provided excellent puncture protection. Just don't expect much in the way of grip!
I've heard good things about GP 4 seasons but they're a bit pricey!
