Bought a pair from bike shop in Stirling last week - godsend as all raods were ice ice baby- but now home from holidays I have a 3 mile odd cycle to local woods. How long will the tyres last on the road(they are gritted so all tarmac)? Or Is it better just to drive there and then get spikes out on ice/snow?
Most of these tyres recommend quite a bit of road riding on them before using them on ice, to bed them in. If you do a forum search, there has been a lot on ice tyres and snow tyres, with plenty of links to helpful sites owned by serious snow cyclists with lots of tyre experience to share. Try

There is another good one too, but I cant remember the ref for that, so you will have to forum search for it.

Have fun. I love being the only cyclist in sight on my Ice Spikers!

What tyres and what shop? Was thinking of getting a pair as I have just looked out the knee pads for the commute tomorrow and the wife has suggested thats perhaps a bit mental ๐

It was stewart wilson or something in Stirling. Brampton Street If I remember. Was there on day out on hold and went to tiso as I thought they had an alpine bikes upsairs, staff sent me 5 mins walk along the road to the stewart wilson shop, picked up everything I needed including the tyres. I used them for 3/4 xc rides in aberfoyle area in the snow and ice and they were ace. I have just came in from a ride tonight and the rear has gone flat! I was riding on the pavements round town, didnt hit anything and didnt notice anything that would have punctured them. There was another post about problems with schwalbe winter tyres - I hope I havent suffered the same fate as others have had! I will insopect them tomorrow after work.
sorry tyres were schwalbe ice spiker with puncture protection
