I did an earlyish ride (8:00am) this morning at FOD and just past the pump track (pretty close to the start of the trails for those who don’t know it) 2 adult boar ran across in front of me and two more adult ran across behind me with about 5 or 6 youngsters in the bracken just to the left of the track.

Not unusual to see boar at FOD but never seen them that close to the trail centre before. I have just bought a GoPro and was going to try it out today but didn’t!

My (sau)sage advice is tha it'd be quite rash(er) to get too close, esp.if there are young 'uns about.

We went searching for them last Monday. In fact we've been with my brother who lives in the forest and knows it quite well, never yet seen one yet, only heard but it soon scarpered. We did see deer and muntjac.

How exciting though.

Blimey!!

Thought you might be talking about the rugby, England coming off second best against some wild Boers (and others) there...

The humbugs are very cute - I've had them follow me on my bike like ducklings before now. I had to shoo them off before an big guardian came and claimed them. Don't believe the rubbish some of the locals say about them being aggressive. They have no interest in tangling with you if you don't bother them.

In France it's the hunters you need to be afraid of rather than the wild boar.

I was slowly riding up a Cat 3 climb in the Lot when I saw a hunter by the side of road a bit ahead of me..... then I heard and saw the trees and bushes being pushed aside ahead of the hunter and a boar came rushing out of them towards the hunter being chased by dogs.... the hunter took aim and missed the boar (thankfully) and the boar turned sharp left into the trees away from the road.   The hunters missed shot was heading across the apex of the bend of the road ahead of me.

A car was coming down the road across that apex.... fortunately no one was hit including the boar as far as I know. By this time I was shouting at the hunter...   all I got was gallic shrug.
