[Closed] Why is my Maxel loose??

Hi All,

Just got back from Llandegla and whilst there I noticed, well more felt, that the front wheel seemed loose. I checked the Maxel, which was done up tight and the bearings are Ok. But on the side with the cam lever there is some play in the fork leg, on closer inspection the Maxel doesn't seem to screw in far enough/flush with the leg to clamp it before using the cam lever. Without the wheel in the Maxel screws all the way in and is flush with the fork leg.

Prob not a great exlpanation, but can't think how else to explain.

Do the Maxel's wear?? I can't see that I'm missing any parts

Cheers
Carl

FWIW, I'd guess that the inner "expandy" bits of the maxle are either in need of tightening or greasing or both

Ta, I had done that but so much came up I thought I'd ask.

Its almost as if the Maxle is about 3-4mm to long when the wheel is in

I had a similar but opposite problem but it was on a Formula 20 mm hub . Couldn't get the maxle out .It was turning ok but then seemed to stop moving and was clicking as if it was stuck on the thread in the fork dropout. Was a bugger to get out .Took it to my LBS and it took two of us to sort it,had to clamp the fork ends together to stop them being forced out and use brute force . Looked as if the ridge on the maxle was stuck on the indent in the hub.You can feelit if you put your finger in..oo rr.Greased it and it was ok for a while but tend to leave the front wheel off now when not in use to prevent reoccurrence.

I have this problem with pro2 and a set of pikes.
It seems as if the maxle screw side bottoms out before if is totally tight.
Thought about putting a shim on the outside of the fork on the lever side.
I reckon about 1.5mm should sort mine out.
Just need to try and find a washer that will fit though.. ๐Ÿ™

Is there not a hex screw in the lever? Tighten that, problem solved.

Thanks Guys,

Going to get a couple of shims/washers for now and fit them between the outside of the fork and the cam end of the Maxel as had an expensive month on the car which I didn't plan on. Will get a new 2011 Maxel at the end of the month.

ste_t No Hex screw, forks are 2010 Revelations

Right all sorted. Been and got a washer that acts like a spacer as its about 3mm thick. It now does up tighter than Yorkshiremans wallet ๐Ÿ™‚

Robhughes - I've a spare if you want it (bought 2 just in case I needed both) as one is thick enough. Send me your address if you do E-mail in profile
