out yesterday and found that my 2009 coil Lyrik felt hard. wasn't absorbing the bumps as it usually does.

there was snow on the ground, but it was a barmy 17°C. was out last week in the cold and it was performing fine.

why the sudden change?

last serviced it (new oil, seals/foam thingies, etc) back at the start of 2011. regardless of the time elapsed since, will changing the oil and seals bring it back to life?

Most likely, rebound seal head seal has gone allowing damping oil into the lowers and causing a hydraulic lock before the forks reach full travel, service and change seals to fix.

Need to replace the seals in the dampers side too as it's one of those that's leaking, probably.

It has attained self-consciousness and is now constantly thinking of the best trail it has ridden...and it is permanently excited by it...

Could be a number of things if it hasn't been serviced in a while....

As loco says, could be a leak from the damper into the lower. This results in a very unsupportive amount of reduced travel (as the compression damping is impaired), followed by a very harsh 'bottom out' well short of full travel (way more oil in the lower, where it shouldn't be).

It could also be totally screwed seals that just won't slide over the stanchions any more (if this is the case it is unlikely that you haven't at least surface-damaged the stanchions!)

For your sake I hope it is the former - a service and clean-up will sort the second problem as well, but you will be on a rapidly speeding up cycle of required services vs accelerating stanchion wear, unfortunately.

^^ stanchion was damaged, but that was when the fork was almost new. repaired using nail varnish and very fine wet'n'dry. all good now. very smooth repair.

i swapped the fork for a 2013 Sektor and had my first ride with the Sektor yesterday. made me realise i need to get the Lyrik sorted. strangely it seems to have sorted itself out a little. doing the wedging-the-fork-againt-the-skirting-and-bouncing-on-it test it isn't as harsh as it was last week.

i think it is the seals.

is the following what i need to sort the fork out?

ArtNr.: 11.4015.067.000

or do i need a full-on service kit?

Those are wiper seals. LoCo is suggesting you need damper seals. You'll likely want to change the wiper seals as well though.
