[Closed] Why so many cotter/split pins?
I recently bought some Shimano (B10S?) brake pads and there were 3 cotter pins in the packet. Why?
What a waste of resources! I bought two sets of pads so loads of waste. I just don't get it
🤦
They're only wasted if you throw them in the bin. Having spares is much better than not having one when you need them.
Yup, they go in my on bike toolkit and have got me out of trouble quite a few times.
You really did want to find something to be angry about on the internet, didn't you?
Op had a little moan about a little thing, I think he's allowed that in these odd times.
You actually use them?
Not sure of which brakes you've got, but these work with Deore upwards.
They're designed to be used in more than one brake. Not all brakes use the same length split pin.
2 sets of pads, 6 pins (5 identical)
I'm not angry, it's the amount of packaging around them etc that seems wasteful. I've got loads of old pads in the shed, how do you recycle them?

I thought it was SLX upwards?
How to recycle? Wear them out then chuck in scrap metal bin. A sliver of remaining pad won't stop them being recycled.
