First of all, well done to Gee Atherton for winning the race and the overall world cup, but come on people for ****s sake watching it on freecaster last night there was almost no crowd and no atmosphere!!! it was the same for most of the year!!
Look at Fort william 20000 people all in a small place big stage big grandstand!! big noise great atmosphere...this year when rachel atherton was on track i could hear the crowd cheering and i was half way up the hill!!
why are other countries so crap at holding world cups??
Why can't other countries........? Would me a more appropriate title then?
I was surprised at the lack of crowd too, I guess that in a large country you can see more clearly that it is a minority sport.
Yanks are usually not that interested in sports they suck at. Now the UK dominates D.H. it should come as no surprise that Scotland is heaving with patriots every year.
There used to be huge crowds in France in the early 1990's, but no-one is interested over there now. Even in the French Alpine resorts that cater for Downhillers, it is mostly Brits, with a few Australians and Kiwis making up the numbers.
The event was well-organised, and it was a good course. Just no spectators. After all, have you ever been to a world cup? It's pretty boring till the big hitters come down to be honest.
I look a bit silly now, don't I? ๐
sorry my bad was typing too fast,
well yeah ive been at fort william for the past 3 years and will be back next year.
I dunno MC i find that if you walk the track while the lesser known guys are on track its good for watching lines and form and then make your way to the bottom for the top 10 or so to cheer and shout.
the course looked great, would love to have a go on it but the finish area was empty
There were def more supporters than it looked like, there was a huge amount of noise when the local favourite (Gwin) was going down the track.
as above, it was noisy when the local boy was on his run. Seemed like freecaster lacked cameras covering a lot of the top half of the course, maybe there were lots of people up there.
