Hi everyone

I live in Chamonix but I'm coming back to the UK to get married. I've just bought ma bird a Nukeproof Mega TR for a wedding present. Being all black and two of my mates having the same bike its a bit boy'ee. I'm looking for someone who I can drop it off with, will completely strip it, re-paint/powdercoat the frame, rebuild it and post it up to Glasgow. We're away on honeymoon until the end of June so that gives about five weeks to get it done.

Do you know any companies who would do such a thing? Are there any? Is it maybe going to cost a silly amount of money?

Anyway, just thought I'd ask incase.

Cheers,

Angus

Well, there's a very good powdercoater just up the road from me here in Glasgow - ESP Powdercoating.

So any good Glasgow shop could do that for you.

I think Argos Cycles would do this. I can't vouch for their quality, but I remember looking them up when a friend was thinking about having a bike re-sprayed. According to the pricelist on their website to "Strip, service & re-assemble cycle" would cost from £180, and probably about the same again for the re-spray.

I was going to suggest Argos.

The work they have done for me has been excellent, but I'd call them and check timescales, as they have a pretty full order book most of the time.

Yep Argos will do it. They are highly experienced and get very good reviews. But not sure if they will powder coat it, think they only do paint.

Or if you want somewhere more local, do it in a 3 part process:

1) Get a shop to strip the frame
2) Send to powder coaters
3) Get shop to put it all back together again.

Argos racing cycles are fantastic, they painted a Klein for me in color changey paint and provided replacement decals top notch but not cheap.. My paint job was £395

Argos are the ones - there are loads of powder coat specialists etc. but few with so much experience with bicycles. They did my Mk1 Evil Sovereign in a beautiful British racing green with black decals under the lacquer. They provided all the decals based in j-pegs I sent them - it was stunning: FAR better than when new - I wish I hadn't sold but mounted it on a wall to look at. That said - NOT CHEAP..!

I'll be less subtle than Ben 🙂

GET BEN COOPER TO DO IT AT KINETICS BIKE SHOP IN GLASGOW!

A good powder coater would charge a lot lot less than the Argos prices mentioned above, and as Ben builds custom frames from scratch I guess he has a very good working relationship / understanding powder coater at ESP.

I build a few frames and pay around £60 with my powder coater (fastline in Preston)- this is at the top end of industrial prices but they understand the level of care and finish required.

The only downside is you can't easily do decals under clear with powder coat.

Ha, thanks 😀

I am very happy to do it, though there are lots of other good bike shops in Glasgow too. A single-colour from ESP is around £60.
