And what is it?
For a while I only had 1 bike, a 5" hardcore hardtail. Worked fine, but was a bit "jack of all trades, master of none". Couldn't keep up with the Xc bikes on the climbs or the full susers on the decents and would leave me battered on all day rides. But would work out OK at everything.
Now I'm thinking of selling all my various bikes and getting an XC full susrer, either a trek top fuel 8 or a giant anthem x4. Now neither will be as burly as the current main bike (still a 5" hardtail), but the stuff i bought that for doesnt exist south of the pennines......
Only one here - spesh epic since all the bits fell off or rusted away on my killer vee. am considering a cheap[ish] HT for the winter though...
I only had one bike up until April or thereabouts....my old Stumpjumper FSR (2001). It was fine for most UK stuff, although I wasn't very confident descending on it for steeper, particularly rocky stuff.
I replaced it with a new Stumpjumper FSR which is much better for everything. I took the bits off the old bike & put them on an Inbred frame. I now use this for all my on road stuff (as well as riding it instead of the Stumpy) and have a 2nd set of wheels for road duties.
It's much better having two bikes as I can get my spanners out with no fear of messing things up and being bike-less!
but the stuff i bought that for doesnt exist south of the pennines......
Oooh, get her!
I only have one bike, a Zesty, so it's not really an all-rounder by any description. It is my dream bike for the riding I enjoy most though hence why i have it. Probably makes even less sense when I tell you I live in London.
Next year I do want to add one of those Genesis Day One Alfine cross bikes as I reckon that will be great to cover all the things that a 140mm full squidge bike doesn't (road, commuting, off road pottling).
I have one mountain bike, its a cotic single speed. Its alrite for all the stuff I do, if I put the seatpost up I can ride xc (thats what I did today), put the seat down and its good for some dirt jumps or I can put some big tires on it and long forks and take it to the alps to ride downhill.
Cant really justify having more than one mtb, today was the first time ive ridden it since I got back from France in august.
turner dw 5 spot, it goes down it goes up.
have only had one bike for the last four years. i don't dj or dh anymore so no need for more than one bike.
although i would like a hardtail...
Only one here. Hardtail. 🙂
on-one 456 rigid.. I have some RS revs to put on it should the need ever arise but I find that rigid is fine for the sort of riding that I do.. (wheels on ground.. unhurried.. moorland rambling.. more technical the betterer..)

Only one here. Hardtail.
what about the holy grail quest for a blur4x that you treated us all to last year ?
I needed a new boiler, bathroom and kitchen.
@RealMan - excuse my ignorance but what Santa Cruz is that - looks nice.
SS'd on one 456. 130mm forks.
For most my group rides i've waited at the top of climbs and the bottom of descents. Nothing to do with the bike though, it's about the effort i put into riding the way i like to. And for all dayers, if i'm fit, that not a problem either(only ridden all day on the quantocks, exmoor, dartmoor and trail centres) i'd not be able to do peaks, lakes or big mountain riding.
For you though, you choice will come down to your preference of climbing or descending. The top fuel and Anthem will do both very well in a skittish manner.
Its the latest incarnation of the Chameleon
Technically I have two, but trying to get rid of the ss roadie I bought cos it ain't my cup of tea! Which will leave me with just the Ibis Mojo 😆
I've got a Singular Swift. Got neither space or money for anything else.
Not that I'm that complaining! 😀
Just the Knolly for me. Used to have a HT, but never rode it.
That chammy looks nice, just needs new grips and them forks winding out 😀
Garage door is well painted though.
Only one mountain bike now- the Mojo. Sold the others to force myself to use it all the time, rather than have it as 'Sunday best' so to speak.
Still got my old cross bike though- but even that doubles up- set of wheels with road tires on at the moment, another set for offroad, and another rear for the turbo.
I might as well only have one. For the last 15 months the only bike I have ridden is my Spesh Epic. Still have a Whyte 19 carbon HT never ridden. Absolute travesty 😳
Just the one mtb, a cotic soul, it does everything I want off road and leaves me grinning. After being a habitual frame swapper, nearly 2 years in and I think I'll only change this one when it breaks.
Discounting the 40 quid work bike, I only ever have the one.
Currently experimenting with a 69er thus:

Those grips were new! They're very brown now though..
I only ride one at a time if that's any help. 😆
realman.. were you riding with a couple other blokes down Woodbury way today..? One of the trio had an horrifically gawdy red jersey.. I thought it might be you..?
Just one for me too.
Giant Reign. It's a fairly big bike, but i'm fairly big and heavy too, so don't really notice the extra couple of pounds.
Sometimes I think of downsizing to just the one bike..
Just impossible to decide if its the HT or bouncer that goes??
I have ridden the mbop for the last couple months, and was once again thinking of selling the full-suss.
Then had a day on the full suss today, and now kinda persuaded to sell the HT??
Best option seems to keep both..
realman.. were you riding with a couple other blokes down Woodbury way today..? One of the trio had an horrifically gawdy red jersey.. I thought it might be you..?
Today? We rode Woodbury on Saturday on road, Haldon off road on Friday, and I'm not quite sure where we went today (on road though), so could've been.
More so if you were referring to this sexy number..
And almost definitely if I was on a black and red ribble, putting out 500W on the front. 😉
What were you riding?

Once the ss goes, this is all I'll have 😆
I don't own a bike till we move in a few weeks 🙁 it's so sh1t not having a bike. But then I'm going to treat myself to something based around a Bfe frame. Seems like ages away
Sort of, I have one mtb and one road bike. The mtb is a DMR Trailstar and gets used for everthing. A few weeks ago I did an uplift day at FOD, today I've just got back from a day at the Long Mynd. Great bike 🙂
Santa cruz nomad for me.(well apart from my scott hybrid for going to work on.)
Oh no. The more the Merrier here!
Just a Cove Handjob here but about to be replaced with a Nicolai Helius AM!
just the one here, an orange p7, setup with short 80mm forks.
but im considering a genesis croix de fer next year.
and a ss hybrid for going to work on.
realman:
I was putting some air into the tyres on my 456 by the picnic bench on the Budleigh cycle path..
I can't be any more specific than bright red and gawdy though as I was too busy blinking the blood from my eyes..
Cove Stiffee and Ribble Ribelle here, oh and a Mercian for winter road... and an RFX.
My wife may think I have one.
Only have the one - Ragley MMMBop and am loving it!
Yeah, looks great doesn't it..
Probably wasn't me today yunki, sorry to disappoint. Just found out we were out towards cullompton (assuming budleigh cycle path is in budleigh).
One's all you need! I've got a Giant STP with some 100mm fox forks.
I use a silly long seatpost for XC and commuting to work, which it's probably not designed for but it works but it's also mint at the BMX track and at 4X races. I love it! I couldn't imagine swapping between bikes and having to get used to them again, this does it all.
hmmmm... that IS disappointing news.. it means that there are TWO people in East Devon sporting nuclear strength eyeball assaulting jerseys..
ouch
I only have the one bike set up for offroad my second MTB is set up as a commuter most of the time
xc hardtail
Just one MTB here, a Genesis Abyss.
i have 2 a cotic soul and a sir niner. I am going to sell the soul as since i got the niner i never use it anymore. Its a shame cause its a great bike but pointless if its unused 🙁
Having only got back into mountain biking recently, after quite a few years away, I have just the one bike. (That is unless you count the 15-year-old Marin that's sitting in storage in two cardboard boxes waiting until I have a spare month or two to renovate it.)
It's a 100mm travel hardtail, for the record.
ohhh get her
well I took it to spain last week weighing more than some WC DH bikes! Even with skinny wheels and tyres and 1" less travel and a good 50mm off the fork height it still felt uninspiring in comparison on the chilterns, I know a skinny bike wont make the trails great but at least it'll make them quicker.
Sounds like someone's a little jealous... 😀
Where abouts do you usually ride?
Ohh and it'll never be 1 bike, the rest will probably condense to a 4x bike (replacing the 456 and BMX) and I might condense the roadie, tourer and fixie down to just the roadie.
Intense tracer for me and that's all I seem to need at the minute
Like RealMan I just have Chameleon. It's all you need.
Chilterns for long XC rides and Swinley for when I fancy some corners and the odd bit of technical fun.
TBH the stuff in Spain kicks anything in the UK into touch, now I just have to ride arround knowing that it'll be a year before I get to go back 🙁
Njee why you ditching the mtb's?
realman:
[looks over shoulder to make sure no-one's listening] mostly I pootle the coastpath [/looks over shoulder to make sure no-one's listening]
but also pretty regular at Woodbury Common and East Dartmoor..
Me. just the one.
only one for me ht genesis core20,never had a fs so i dont know what im missing!!!
Ok, give us a shout if you do see me (cause I like the idea of you just randomly shouting at cyclist with red tops on).
Its annoying, been here for 2 weeks now (is that all?), and still haven't made it to exmoor or dartmoor. Can't wait though, got a little taste of the moors at woodbury, aching for more. It's also weird not living right next to the sea any more, kind of missing it - might have to get out and give the coastpath a go if its worth it?
Commencal Meta 5.5 XT for trails when a bit of bounce is needed.
Cove Stiffee for everything else, including biking to work..
I like the coast path a lot.. it's cheeky (very in places) but there's some stunning singletrack to be found if you persevere.. walkers are usually very graceful and friendly though and often just bemused that anyone would be daft enough to cycle it..
(note: walkers are definitely not so welcoming along busier parts of the jurassic coast section as it's a designated world heritage site now)
I look forward to yelling REALMAAAAN at random red jerseyed cyclists.. I'll report back with any amusing misunderstandings..
I have one bike, an Orange 5. I keep threatening to get a hardtail for winter but the 5 is so much fun, I don't need another bike.
Only one mountain bike, a slot drop inbred built lightish with gears.
My other bikes (Ti roadbike, race bmx) do completely different jobs, so no cross-over.
I look forward to yelling REALMAAAAN at random red jerseyed cyclists.. I'll report back with any amusing misunderstandings..
😀
Just the one mtb for me now; a cotic soda. After faffing around with different bikes for different jobs I found one that will cope amusingly with 95% of the off road riding I'm ever likely to want to do. It also helps me stay married that my total bike count is only three. My only problem is that I love it so much I can't stop buying jewelery for it.
Just one for me but can borrow the wifes new MMMbob I have just built her if needed.
er so does this mean more than one bike and am on a slippery slope to multi bike ownership
Just one. Charge Duster 8.
Simples.
Just the one here as well....Orange evo 2
I wish I could. 😳
Probably the most sensible one to keep would be my Soul ... but I'm a woman. 🙄
Me, at least one that's rideable, it's even a Carrera, shock horror. I've also got a Mongoose Amplifier (Amp), Raleigh Burner, and a '97 Specialized Rockhopper, all in various states of disrepair.
Shame on me.
crazy fool, one mtb? You may aswell SS it, ghetto tubeless, wear sandles and chase the moles in your garden with a pitchfork reciting Haiku's. Hippy
Only got one mtb just now, my Hemlock... Mmmbop is getting replaced under warranty, Soul is in a box, carrera rigid thing has 2 knackered wheels.
Got a Sanderson Breath for XC, single track off road mincing. 100mm forks. Got a light weight 29er set up rigid front and skinny tyres sort of a CX bike with flat bars and disc brakes.
I would like one but its good for road riding the 29r and will be more use in the winter on the roads and can be run in the summer on most of the trails. Leave the 26er with wider proper off road tyres and a 1x9 speed gear setup for the winter and more proper off road style riding.
I reckon 2 bikes is the best combo of getting some use out of them and
being practical. having 5 bikes and what not is daft as you never will get your moneys worth out of all that gear.
I've done 5 years with a Cove Stiffee. Run it with downhill tubes and 2.5 tyres for downhill style stuff, and 2.3 tyres for cross country.
My concern is that I'm starting to smash myself up riding a hardtail, so going to go over to full suss some time.
spoon; so, you're suggesting buying a full-bouncer for the 'easy' stuff down south, and keeping your hardtail for the 'proper' stuff up north?
i can see nothing wrong with that logic.
well done, keep it up.
(i've got 2 mountain bikes, a bluepig and a Dh bike FS thing, but i haven't ridden that in months...
i can see nothing wrong with that logic.well done, keep it up.
True, but up north (or abroad, or an uplift) I'd pick something interesting to ride that would leave me knackered in 15-20miles with at least half of that consisting of the ploding up/hammering down variety of riding. Where as down here its more bumpy bridleway climb followed by bumpy (but non technical) decent, which just hammers my backside and lower back.
only one for me
A 2004 sworks enduro, it has done everything i have ever asked of it and is bloody bombproof. Ride it all year round
will prob replace it next year with another enduro
Only one bike...?....(shudders)..... 😯
Our two year old only has one bike - an Islabike Rothan.
Me and wife have a couple each.
