White rims .... yay...

[Closed] White rims .... yay or nay?

So I need to build up a wheel for which I need a rim.

Was planning to go "standard" black but have seen a good deal on a pair of white rims for less than the single cost of a black rim.

Bike in question is this one:

I guess they won't age as well as black rims - showing wear and tear soon being white. I guess they will also be marginally heavier but as the frame is steel and I'm adding a Rohloff a few grams shouldn't matter!

So ..... White rims .... yay or nay?

For those that agree yay pictures of example are always welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

I had some on a demo bike, it took a **month to get them looking clean before returning it. Never again.

** not really a month

If it only left the house at night, yes.

If not, get some black paint. http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/do-rims-with-brake-tracks-look-rubbish-on-disc-bikes some paint advise here.

Why do you think they look such a good deal?

With the white fork and white decals, yes.

Personally I've just turned down a set of wheels for that very reason though.

I think it will not make that bike look worse.

I had a set of EX1750s, white with red stickers, on my white with red stickers bike. That was quite a lot of white and red. I liked it but I can totally see why people would point and laugh.

No for me. But then I'm all about black rims, stems, bars etc etc. Hate coloured parts scattered over a bike, looks gash. But that's just me.

Why don't you eviscerate a puppy while you're at it?

It's a yes from me.

I can also recommend dangly heart shaped objects, that gather dust and cost a fortune.

Does that annoy you every time you walk through that door?

A mate who should remain nameless had the white rims but with gold hubs and it looked a little Liberace...

On the plus side they look good when clean.
On the minus side they don't look clean for long.

Built up about 6 years ago.

Will work ok on yours I reckon. Others seem to disagree

White wheels FTW! Even when they're filthy.

Hmm. I should soon have an orange orange Patriot 66, which is going to get black lyriks and white brakes, do you think it can carry off the EX1750s?

(yes, they're 5.1 rims and therefore not up to the job. I don't care, I only bought the wheels for the hubs)
