Even if the red flags are flying you can still use that horribly-surfaced perimeter track, obviously you can't cross the Plain though!

Effectively you can ride easterly from Bratton White Horse to Casterley Camp all on that track.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what is this trail like? length, type of riding, climbs, technicality, etc.
It's relatively local, and sounds like it may be worth a stab ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually Bratton to Casterley makes for a good workout despite starting on a ridge. It's undulating ... frequently. There's a few tracks that drop off the ridge that are interesting, sure there's loads more that I've not yet explored.

Imber Range Perimeter Path is the name.

dobiejessmo - on your mx'er? The problem is knowing what tracks can actually be ridden as tanks just seem to demolish them and the signs!

Hi CG it is not a MXer its a trail bike, you know the differance ๐Ÿ˜† i am sure. You are spot on there thats why i thought that orange track was a tank track yesterday as i had seen similar tracks by Everleigh saying they are tank tracks.I did read that the MOD were going to put more signs up so people stayed on the right tracks with what ever they were using.
I like the scenery in Wilts and all the history but strangely i hardly ever cycle it.What was the trail like before they graveled it?
Wilts council must have some money in the last few years they have done the Byways in West wood/Alton Barnes/Ridgeway etc. They looked done the ones around Easterton and Potterne not that i have ever done them before.Mind there are 100s to try yet ๐Ÿ˜€

Of course I did! ๐Ÿ˜ณ Yes I believe work is ongoing but the MOD have spent a huge amount of money on that perimeter track.

Scenery is fantastic and every ride becomes a history lesson. Am discovering all sorts of things in unlikely places!

That track was fine apart from potholes, it was perfectly rideable and considerably better than now. Have only been here two years so limited knowledge.

Wiltshire Council spend very little money on road repairs, am shocked at the state of roads and even the main A roads are rough. So could be it's being spent on Byways, I don't know those that you mention.
