[Closed] Whick Brakes? XT 2010 or SLX 2012

Hey

I ride a Charge Blender, generally for hacking, 4x, light bit of DH, bit of trails riding etc.

Been looking at getting a new set of stoppers, due to being able to get a real good deal through a mate I'm looking at either last seasons xt's (which have an excellent reputation) or the 2012 slx (which have received rave reviews & use the new xtr technology).

Question is does anyone have Any experiences of either? Or better still does anyone have any experience of both and could provide a comparison?

Main considerations are power, modulation and fit and forget (as much as possible with brakes)

Cheers

No competition at all, the 2012 SLX brakes are a lot better than the previous XT. I've used both, have 2012 XT brakes and had 2010 XTs for a long time before swapping. The new brakes are significantly more powerful but also have better modulation and feel. They're easier to bleed and the smaller levers feel great.

The only thng the SLXs lack over my XTs is the free stroke adjuster but I've never used that on any brakes anyway so I would probably, with hindsight, go with the SLX version over XT next time

I thought that may be the case, Shimano claim more power in the new brakes and Dirt mag said that there is little between the new xt/slx other than adjustments and to be honest all I want is the reach adjustment.

Weights not a huge issue (ive got a steel frame) but any ideas of differences in weight?

If there is any difference at all I'd be surprised. Not had any on the scales but I can't see anywhere where a saving in weight would occur really.

Some think the SLX look better too as they aren't chromed like the XTs

I own both. 2012 SLX all the way. They are lighter too.

Mega cheap from www.rosebikes.co.uk - you must have seen the thread?

I'm sure that I heard that the new SLX are lighter than the old XT somewhere. That place was probably here in the PSA XT M785 thread

Looks like SLX is the way forward. Cheers for the response.

Entonox - Awsomeness thank you for the head up not only a good call with the price but levers are opposite too (right lever rear brake, left lever front) and that's how I roll.
