I have a Merlin Works 4.0 full suspension frame and a recently updated (disc mount fitted ) Merlin Taiga rigid frame. The works takes a 100mm fork and the Taiga an 80mm fork. The plan is to revive the Taiga as a winter filth hub geared bike and I originally bought the Reba for this project. However aesthetically the Fox might look better on the Taiga as the Taiga has traditional white Merlin decals, while the black Reba would match the Works better (sad I know).
I'm sure a modern F100 would have a better suspension action than the Reba, but my F100 is from 2006/07 (albeit in VGC and well serviced). Is the more modern Reba going to out perform the older F100? Which fork will survive the filth better?
(Either fork can be run at 80 or 100mm).
Thoughts please to help with this dilema.
The Reba I had felt flexy compared to Fox forks I've ridden. They were 120mm versions so not the exact models and more travel than you're talking about.
But so far as filth, there are infinite reports of worn stanchions on Fox forks if you don't keep them pristinely clean but rarely any bad reports for Rockshox.
How about the new DT Swiss fork on the front page? I have a hankering for one of those on my Sub 5 ๐ (2002 Vintagw)
rarely any bad reports for Rockshox.
Hahah.
Go on, start a who's worn out stanchions on RS forks thread. I bet you'll get a fair few replies. I've personally seen more worn out RS than fox. Both need routine service and attention.
what year is your reba team? -'09 and '10 are waaaay better than previous ones (new damper).
