I'm looking to get some slick tyres for my mountain bike for on road touring purposes. I will be touring with a trailer and will be carrying some off-road mountain bike tyres for trail riding. The slicks need to be of the folding variety and obviously quite puncture and wear-resistant. Has anyone got any recommendations?
hitman, i use some conti semi slicks and they're a pretty good compromise. Previously I'd used the Sport Contacts which are really fast and I don't think that I ever got a puncture despite commuting in Glasgow over 16miles of broken buckie bottles a day, often wearing a big rucksack!
I think that the semi's I used were the travel contacts. They were almost as fast on the road but were actually OK for mountain biking. The only thing they were pants at was either climbing or descending when you were going straight, there was obviously no grip but as soon as you leaned the tyres over they were fine so you could corner pretty hard.
I don't know what trip you're planning doing but maybe that would work for you?
Cheers Doug I will check those out now and see what they look like. when you say they were bad or climbing or descending presumably you mean off-road? BTW, I am planning to make it down your way in the summer, so if I do I might well stay for a week with you if you have any spaces.
Cheers
are these the tires you are talking about, because currently these are in my top five:

Specialized Nimbus are absolute b'stards to fit. Tighter than a shark's bumhole.
Hi Hitman, those look like the exact tyres. I meant off-road for the climbing / descending! They work well turning but not when they go straight because they don't have any knobs unless leant over.
That'd be great to have you visit us in Summer, give me a shout when you have made your plans and we can sort it out. If you make it down this way I can lend you a set of proper off road tyres for the week as well ๐

I've used them for a while, they are a great touring/commuting tyre. Folding too.
These are great and cheap!

Schwalbe Big Apple or Marathon Supreme run very smoothly and give some 'balloon suspension' for free. Very nice tyres!
