I need a hand here as I don't know much about Superlights other than they are a simple, low maintenance single pivot design. Is anyone more knowledgeable able to identify the age of the frame and shock and comment on whether subsequent frame updates make a more recent Superlight a more worthwhile purchase?

PS congratulations on whoever outbid me on ebay for the Hemlock today!
that the older version of the SL (or as it was originally "the heckler").
Have no more info than that really, other than it should be cheap, and the newer one is a brilliant ride (not ridden one of these)
It's an older one, given it has vee mounts I'd say maybe '02 or '03, something like that.
i have the same frame. I recently bought mine second hand and I love it! Mine is an '04, i think this design persisted all the way to '06 (it is referred to as pre-07 when buying bushes). A set of bushes for the main pivot is only £20, an absolute bargain when compared to other bikes.
The v-mounts can be carefully drilled out by hand to accept the Hope hose guides, or just use gaffer tape.
The shock has a rebound adjustment and lockout, so i figure it is the Float RL (might even have the obscure AVA adjustment like mine but i have yet to find a use for this).
Why don't you just ask the guy who is selling it??
He's a regular on here.
Wow. My own ignorance has given me some free puclicity!!!
BTW Paper Lawyer, I thought you were looking specifics as it's clearly a pre-07. I'm not sure if there were any differences in 02 (or so) - 07 years, I doubt there would have been anything significant.
You could ask on the mtbr SC forum? In fact I might if I remember!
Prolly 2003 onwards that one. Same updated swingarm mine had and I got one of the first 'revised' ones.

Fair one Bru... 🙂
Didn't know if the OP knew you where on here...
HOw awesome was yours Steve?
Just bear in mind that Superlight's of that potential vintage pretty much all cracked on the inside of the swingarm where the chainstay section joins the pivot. Mine did. I believe that they did sort out this problem but I don't know exactly when or how you would tell the difference. That one does look like my frame which was purchased around 2002. If it is cracked then you will have a hard time finding a replacement swingarm now. Jungle did have some but I would imagine that they wouldn't have any left now in 2009.
For what it's worth the guy who bought mine knew it was cracked and the bike is still going today. He probably only rides it a handful of times a year though.
Thanks for all you replies, plenty to consider.
After a couple of years riding an Epic, I may just revert to a hardtail!
(I hate pivots!)
Thats got one of the newer back ends on it that dont crack.
Looks very much like a 2003 to me given the AVA shock.
The first two digits of the serial number confirm the year of manufacture.
Great frame, I had the earlier model, no trace of a crack on mine and really nice. Enjoy.
whos selling this frame as im interested in it for myself if its still going
