Electron Terra 2 Li-Ion front light
Or Hope 1

Please can anyone recommend one.

Hope looks good 3 hours on full but i am impressed with the run time of the Terra 5 hours on full!

Cheers

Warren

I have a Hope 1 - it's very well made, fairly bright and uses AA batteries which is very handy. Easy to remove too.
If on a budget, I'd go for this.

Depends what you want from it.
Hope 1 is good for commuting as it clips on and off quickly and gives plenty of light plus has a flashing mode for brighter areas with more cars. In addition I can carry a spare battery pack cheaply. Still switches on in my bag though - how difficult is it to design a switch that doesn't do this? Not very I reckon.

However I wouldn't use it for offroad night riding - the bracket doesn't look strong enough and the thing has no warning before it shuts off plus the beam is too narrow and it is too heavy for a helmet mount.

If you go for the hope, i reccomend the vapextech 30 minute charger and two sets of 2900MAH batts

Like the hope 1 a lot, though not mega powerful (fine if in middle of group though). Checkout the new thing spokeshirts are selling

Ay-up's are worth a look. Had mine (twin set) a couple of years with no probs and I'm v. happy with them. Always get good reviews

Many on here will say the best you can do for under £100 is DealExtreme light from China. There are a couple of versions with helmet mounts and charger types, but if you search this forum you'll find them. This is one, but I'm not sure if it's the most recent version in their catalogue.

Warren - When you get the lights. First thing you MUST do is waterproof the battery pack. They'll die otherwise*

I have the older model of the MagicShine lights and can vouch that they are excellent. Good advice to waterproof the battery. Won't cost much. All thats needed apart from them is a small helmet mounted light for round the corners. Job done.

I'm considering buying another before the 24hr races next yr. It would mean I wouldn't have to go to the charge station at all and have spares (mine lasts about 4hr). For the price you can't really argue.

Conversely, the Terra2s get 4.5 in bikeradar's lights test - although the review isn't online yet:

On the subject of lights - does anyone have any comments on the Magicshine MJ-808, it is a similar price to the Terra 2?

It's £30 overpriced.

I wouldn't waste £80 on the Terra 2, get the MS unit even if you buy it from the UK supplier.
