I’m thinking of getting a new wheel set to replace the Rovals.
The current wheel set is 1575g and would like to go lower. Perhaps Hope as I would like to maintain myself.

I race enduro / XC and do general trail stuff. If I see a jump I will take it. It’s a specialized Epic evo.

Any suggestions would be great. I haven’t mentioned a budget as I can always save up etc.
Thanks

Here you go - bombproof and light : Hope XC6 http://www.hopegb.com/voir_whspxc6.html
Look no further, most people seem to think they're one of the best. I certainly do

American classics come in 100g lighter and seem to be liked, although I have 2 friends with them and the rims do seem a little soft and are narrower than your present wheels. I have same wheels as you, converted rear to 142x12 standard and replaced all bearings with SKF, really nice and quick wheel set. I'm just about to have some CK hubs built up, the wheels will be heavier but will hopefully last. You can buy the rovals for £360 at the mo as well! Hope hubs seem to suffer with premature bearing failure.

Hopes look like the best option. Ruscle, on your rovals how did you undo the nut on the non drive side (rear)?

There seems to be some noise coming from the hub, ive taken the freehub off and cleaned it but the noise still persists.

the only side I havnt stripped is the non drive side.

Their is no nut if I recal, just the outer cap, just pull it of. If difficult use a vice, their is only the sealed bearing on this side. For the other side I bought the tool of ebay to remove that retainer ring which is over the sealed bearing, it was a bitch to remove.

I run American Classics and have had no problems with the rims (I've seen magazine reviews commenting that they found them very tough considering their weight). They rims aren't that narrow and were fine with the 2.3 Eskars I ran on them when they were fitted to my Enduro.

Having said all that I don't reckon I'd be wanting to pay £400 for only 100g or so of weight saving!

You haven't mentioned any budget issues so I'm going to wade in and give a huge recommendation for the Easton Haven Carbons.

I know they are crazy money, but they really are every bit as good as the press are saying. They will be stronger, stiffer, lighter and heart stoppingly more expensive than your Rovals!
