need to reclaim some steerer tube and this is one way to do it for me. any oone have any links to headset comparison site etc please?

i heard the crank bros one was low

eye it is.we had a chap that wanted a hope one but his steerer was too short. the crank bros cobolt was much lower and must have given him at least 10mm more to play with.
