My friend needs a new BB for a late XT 10speed crankset.

I note that my current XT 11sp (M8000) uses a smaller tool (or an insert in the older tool).

Does that mean that there are 2 standards and therefore potential incompatibility ?

I have both tool size so that's not the issue but I don't know what to tell him to buy.

The bike is a 2015 Whyte T-130.

Thanks.

Nick

You can use a new model BB with an old model chainset. They are the same size internally, it's only the outer diameter that changes.

I've just fitted an XT one (cheap on CRC) after my old hope one's threads stripped ๐Ÿ˜•

No problem with compatibility at all, the adaptor fits into the tool fine

Also, I have read here once to preload tight by hand and then back off a quarter of a turn ? Is that good practice for longevity ?

Yup, tighten then back off then I go to a gentle finger tight before tightening the bolts
