Would like to try out some High 5 energy drink but not sure which one to go for?? They do an Energy Source and 4:1 energy drink. What do you guys use?? The 4:1 sounds good for endurance events.
i've just started using the 4:1 carbs/protein drink (citrus flvaour) and i swear by it. it seems to kick in around about the 100k mark for me (on the road bike) and i feel great at the second half / end of the ride, when i'd normally be tired.
the second time i used it, i did 152km, got in, did some tidying, put my bike stuff away etc. my bf was shocked when he got home, as usually i'm vegging out on the sofa!
there was a really good article in cycling weekly a few weeks ago, about fuelling for 100miles rides, recovery etc, and they had an article about endurance and what happens to your body during endurance training. the carbs/protein seems to make a lot of sense.
I use high 5 extreme about an hour before a ride then the 4:1 during a ride. The extreme stuff has an amazing kick. I don't always use energy drinks but at the moment I'm trying to see what works before my first sportive of the year.
For endurance events I have been using the Energy Source for several years. I alternate it with the use Isotonic if it's hot. I've just started trying the 4:1 and found I was getting bloating but I have found that when I've used protein drinks in the past so it's maybe just me. Not tried the Extreme version, is that the one with Caffeine?
