My other half has started regularly commuting to work and back in central London each day. Currently riding a very heavy, steel B-Twin from Decathlon, but I've promised to buy her a new bike for her birthday.
Anyone have any particular recommendations?
Budget £300-400, needs a sensible amount of gears (although it's mostly flat), lightweight, preferably something with a little style.
thanks

The kona dew would be in your price range, come in 2 different colour and have some style
Plus it will come in small sizes 😉
Ooh, Dawes Duchess looking good, that's exactly the kind of thing she is after.
Any more for any more?
thanks
Ed
I know it's slightly off brief but the stock Cotic Roadrat is a lovely bike to ride. Singlespeed but tbh other than fast departures at the lights, I don't have a problem in London - not a lot of hills round here really!
If that Dawes Duchess floats her boat then have a look at Pashley Poppy as well.
Yeah Pashley was the first place I looked, it's only 3-speed hub gears though.
The duchess is only £250, the saved cash gets you a night out.

cheers all - dawes defo looking like a winner at the moment!
thanks again, most helpful.

You did say 'lightweight' didn't you? All of those smart looking old fashioned bikes are going to be 35lb or so. They look jolly nice but they are a pig to ride fast. Lovely if you just want to pootle, but not going to be much easier to ride than a cheap heavy steel bike.
You probably need to find out if she wants a fancy looking steel bike or one that is nice to ride fast and is low effort to ride.
