I'm just abut to buy an edge 800, is the garmin mapping worth it, or are there better maps avaiable to use on it?
Is anyone using the OS gettamap to do routes and then uploading them?
I'm guessing i'll still need to Naivgation base map software if i do it that way?
Chris,
I bought the 800 with the OS mapping included and it works extremely well. I am about to go to France and will be downloading the mapping from Garmin as the free maps of France did not have enough detail.

In the end I went for the GM4800 package which has cadence, hrm, and 1.50K GB maps. Found it better value to get the bundle as the GB map is horrendously expensive on its own. I've also got the City Navigator NT Europe mapping but the 1.50K GB map contains nearly the same level of detail and POI's for on road UK navigation.
Having said all that, there is a multitude of free compatible mapping out there on the web.
Dogsby,
If of any interest, I bought City Navigator NT Europe 2011 on micro sd card off this e-bay shop. A bit cheaper than Garmin yet still the current edition;

I bought the OS map version, then got a HR & Cadence monitor cheap off eBay/Handtec. The OS mapping is handy and is an awful lot cheaper if you buy it with the unit rather than on it's own.
You can make your own maps using Mobile Atlas or something similar but it's not particularly straight forward, and custom maps take a long time to load when you boot the Edge up.
