[Closed] Which CX bike to commute/play on

I have an 18 mile commute each way, mixture of dirt and road, so thinking of getting a CX bike instead of using the mtb everyday...

Got about £700 to play with and was looking at a Kona Jake, is it good for the money? Is there anything else out there I should look at?

Friends all seem to be buying road bikes at the moment too, figure it would be an alright bike for going out on road rides, could stick some road tyres on when doing that.

I bought a Specialized Tricross Sport last year and love it.
Having never had a road bike I went for this as it felt less noodley than a pure racer and looked as though it could withstand some dodgy potholes!
I did my first century on it a couple of weeks back (the Brighton 100) and it performed faultlessly. I kept up with my mate on his road bike and also had a far easier time on the climbs due to the extra gears 🙂

build one up, you'll generally get far better spec.

I've got a Revolution Cross (Ed Bike Coop's own brand) £450.
I've had it for a year and use it for occassional 20mile commute, weekend touring and generally keeping fit. It is really good, esp the frog leg brake levers.

Uncle John is a good choice for a commute. You can fit panniers etc. Good if you need to lug a laptop etc.
