Hi,

I am looking to buy a Cube hardtail, and found a good deal on both the Cube Ltd 2012 and the Cube Ltd SL 2012. I like the black anodized colour, and these are the only two models left in this colour.

I have tried the LTD and really liked it, however the SL has better forks (Reba vs Recon) and is lighter. Looking back on reviews the 2009 LTD Race gets a good review, but is not recommended as a beginners bike, as it is quite twitchy because it is so light. Now I am not very confident going downhill, so I was wondering if the SL is the right bike for me. It seems very similar to the 2009 LTD Race. I ride a lot in the Peak/Lakes and Wales, both trailcenters and cross-country rides (anything including Snowdon etc).

Can anyone help me with the following:
- How come the LTD SL weighs a kilo less (11.7kg vs. 12.7kg) compared to the LTD? The frames look the same?
- Would the LTD SL be more difficult to ride than the LTD, which I have tried and really like?
- Would it be better to spend the extra money on the LTD SL with the better spec, or would the LTD be a good bike to get as well?

Thanks!!

Go for the better bike it's a false economy to try and upgrade later will cost loads more!! Regards weight the frame will be the same through out the range forks and wheels will make a big difference and you will get used to the benifit of a slightly lighter bike very quickly. My lbs has sold loads of cubes in the last 2 years since he got the brand and can't recommend them enough great value for money and the guys I've ridden with who have them rave about them so which ever way you go recon it will be a win/win for you.
Good luck.
Bats.

+1 for what batman11 says.

I hoping to get the Cube Ltd SL 29er on the Cycle to Work Scheme in December.
I looked at just about every bike on the market before deciding on the Cube - the spec is better than just about everything else at that price point.

My other half got a WLS SL about this time year and it's a fantastic bike. She loves it, and for the money the kit is awesome. Like this:

Might be worth looking at the WLS (women's specific stuff)? But, whatever, I'd buy a Cube, no question.

In answer to your questions:

- better, lighter kit
- no, easier if anything (because of the better, lighter kit)
- if you can afford the better spec, get it
