[#4531406]

i dusted off my old Cateye ABS-30 lights the other week to use on my commute to work over the coming months...
i ran them for the first time to test how well the batteries performed seeing as they havent been used for at least 4 years...i was surpised to see that after what seemed like a lifetime to get them fully charged i got the following times - 1h/30w; 1.25h/20w; 2.5h/10w
i thought that's not bad considering the amount of time they've not been used...but my problem is that i'm not sure how much prolonged use the batteries will cope with before they finally give up the ghost.
the obvious thing would be to try and source some replacement batteries...i contacted Cateye and as usual with all manufacturers...they haven't bothered replying...i have found a couple of Uk based websites that still sell the batteries but for £40 each is it worth spending £80 to get them back to what they were back in the day or would it be wiser to spend the money on a more modern light system?
incidentally i found light system called the Cree XM-L T6 that seems to be a seriously powerful unit for a very cheap price....has anyone had any experience of using this light?

Drop Smudge an email @ mtbbatteries.co.uk . He may be able to build you a battery to suit which, assuming you current battery is not Li-Ion, would last longer and be lighter/smaller.

Check out my thread regarding my experience of the C&B seen lights here, it may help you to make your mind up as to whether or not you buy new batteries or purchase one of the new Led variants on the market t'day.

Cree XM-L T6 is a make and model of LED that is used in many different lights. They're pretty much the best LEDs on the market, but whether the light they're built into is any good is another matter.

thanks for all the advice everyone....the cateyes are now the back up option for me now as i have taken delivery of a set of c&b seen lights...i went for the 1200 lumen set (thanks SOMAFUNK).
i ordered them on Tuesday via Amazon and was surprised to see Mr Postie knocking on my door the following morning with the box in his hand!!
seeing as i nearly blinded myself when i switched them on, i'm pretty confident that they will be a very good addition to the bike during winter...
PDW - i realised this after i had posted the original message and started looking for a retailer that sold them....but thanks all the same.
