Need to upgrade on the neoprene and rubber jobbies currently in use. Like the look of those colourful wrappy ones that resemble thick electrical tape. Can’t find similar online.

What are you guys using?

Bike came with some tough rubber strips, but normally an old inner tube.

Do they not resemble thick electrical tape because they ARE thick electrical tape?

Nah they look a lot thicker and very rubbery. Will mess around with the inner tube idea later.

I use ESI silicone tape quite a lot for stuff like this. Sticks to itself and cures to a pretty solid silicone layer.

The self amalgamating tape does need to stick to itself so needs to be wrapped around stuff (it might be obvious to some people, is to me in hindsight), the slapper tape being self adhesive means you can be more selective about where you stick it. I ended up with slapper tape as i didn't want to wrap the whole orange swingarm up, just cover the most vulnerable bits.

I use Velcro. Or you could use scotch 2228 tape.

I've just wrapped old inner tube around my new bike chain stay. Cut a length about 25mm wide, cable tied at the end and wrapped it tight on its self. Surprised how well it went on tbh.

I think that ESI stuff is the most likely candidate, especially as different colours are available - will look for UK supplier. Will also check out the others.

Ta chaps

Surely someone makes a thermoplastic sheet that you could cut, warm and then wrap around with just enough wrap a wound that it "clips" onto the frame.

It's your bike but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! lol 😀

That Esi tape looks like it's actually ha some investment put into it but that Marshy tape is a rip off €14 for a metre?! I'm sure I bought some of the pukka 3M 2228 stuff (which is probably just that - only repackaged) and got 3m for about the same money

Amalgamating tape ftw. I used to do inner tube and cable tie, but amalgamating tape is much neater.

Top tip above on use of the stuff though - it basically fuses to itself. It needs a bit of a stretch to start it fusing once the backing is off. If you haven't used it before, there's going to be plenty of spare on a roll (many many bikes worth) so cut a bit off and practice on a broom, pipe offcut or something first.

Inner tube looks neat if done properly. I find that road tubes are better than MTB tubes because the tubes are thinner / narrower. Keep the wraps equal and it looks peachy. Cheap enough too.

Yes - this. Practice a bit, pull it tight but don't over stretch it, and make sure you make neat, regular overlaps and it'll look like the mutt's nuts, and so much better than inner tube 🙂

I use 2228 tape. If you'd like I can put 1/3 of a roll in a plastic tub and sell it to you for 300% markup 😉

Interesting, when i was looking, i struggled to find anyone with stock that would sell to non-trade which is why i ended up with the marsh guard stuff, and i didnt need miles of the stuff. I would a wider one for the downtube though. If anyone sees a 50mm roll for a reasonable price.

I think mine came from ebay. 50mm available here....

https://www.directa.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1775

Not exactly cheap but that would do a few downtubes.
